Green M&M

This ecological project is led by one of our tutors (Chellzy Huertas) alongside a dedicated group of students. Over the past few years, they have planted more than 3,000 trees, contributing to the creation of a growing nature reserve. Every Saturday morning, they come together to clean parks and rivers or to care for the trees they have already planted, showing their ongoing commitment to protecting the environment and building a greener future.

We’ve created something truly spectacular! Our very own garden, where we are growing vegetables that will soon become part of our future lunches. Among the crops we are planting are tomatoes in all their varieties, green beans, cilantro, beans, and many more.

This project is helping us take our first steps toward cultivating our own organic food while teaching our children the importance of sustainability, healthy living, and caring for the environment. Through hands-on learning, they are discovering how patience, teamwork, and dedication can transform a small seed into something meaningful and nourishing.

Welcome to Green Project’s newest session: The Green Garden — a space where learning, nature, and growth come together to inspire a healthier future for everyone.

Our municipality, Villanueva, Casanare, is located in the Colombian Orinoquía, near the Amazon region. Unfortunately, it has faced one of the highest rates of deforestation in the world, mainly due to large-scale African palm plantations and the oil industry.

Aware of this reality, a group of Colombian and international volunteers from the non-profit organization M&M Formando Líderes created the ecological initiative Green M&M, with the mission of raising awareness and protecting our natural environment.

Through their commitment and teamwork, the Green M&M group has planted and cared for more than 3,000 trees across rural and urban areas, while also leading clean-up campaigns in parks and green zones. Their dedication has been recognized several times by the municipal administration, serving as a clear example of how youth can drive meaningful environmental change.
